How Spruce Point Got Its Name

Spruce Point isn’t just a business name. It’s a real place, and it’s where our story began.

Spruce Point is a small spot at our family camp in Huntington, Vermont, nestled between Camel’s Hump and Starksboro. My grandfather built the camp there in the 1970s with his own hands. Long before there was a company, that land was where our family gathered, worked, and learned what it meant to take pride in what you build.

I grew up going to camp with my dad. Summers were spent fixing things, hauling wood, painting, repairing, and doing the kind of work that doesn’t make headlines but always matters. That place shaped how we see craftsmanship, responsibility, and what it means to do things the right way in Vermont.

For years, the business was called Paul Leavitt Painting. It was built on my dad’s reputation and decades of honest work. As the company grew, we wanted a name that reflected more than one person. We wanted something that represented our family, our roots, and the place that quietly shaped everything we do.

Spruce Point Painting was the obvious choice.

The logo tells that story too. The moose you see is named Harvey. Harvey was a moose my grandfather and uncle hunted many years ago, and he still stands inside the cabin at Spruce Point today. He’s a reminder of our family’s connection to the land and to Vermont itself. The three spruce trees represent the first point at the camp, and the Vermont outline grounds the logo in the place we’re proud to call home.

Every project we take on carries that history with it. Spruce Point Painting isn’t just about paint. It’s about family, place, and carrying forward a standard that started long before there was a company name on the truck.

Paul's Story

\"I grew up in a family shaped by strong values, hard work, and entrepreneurship. My parents, along with my father and 3 brothers, were business minded people who taught me early on that character and integrity will always take you farther than shortcuts ever could.

From a young age, I learned that attention to the smallest details is what separates good from truly exceptional. Whether I was playing sports, making music, or working with my hands, I believed mediocrity was never good enough. I always aimed higher, pushed harder, and chased the best possible outcome. That mindset came directly from my parents, who showed me that dedication, consistency, and enthusiasm are the real keys to long term success.

I began my professional career as a sales representative for a Fortune 500 company, where I learned the inner mechanics of the business world. While the experience was valuable, I quickly realized it was not where my passion lived. I wanted to combine my sales background with hands on, creative work. I wanted to build something tangible, take pride in the final product, and treat people fairly along the way.

That led me to painting. Early on, I was trained by an exceptional Italian painter who mastered the trade at a level I have rarely seen since. Through him and years in the field, I learned not just how to paint, but how to approach the work with discipline, precision, and respect for the craft. Over the years, I worked across residential homes, high end interiors, and large scale commercial construction projects, always focusing on quality, fairness, and integrity.

After more than forty years in the trade, the most meaningful chapter of my career began when my son Levi joined me and became my business partner. Watching him learn the craft from the ground up, embrace attention to detail, and uphold the same standards of quality and character has been incredibly rewarding. Painting is not just a job to me. It is a career I truly love, one I am devoted to, and one I feel deeply grateful to continue alongside my son.

Levi's Story

Learning the Trade From the Ground Up

I grew up around the work long before I ever held a brush. Painting was not something I stepped into later in life. It was always there. I watched my father show up early, treat people fairly, and take real pride in doing things the right way, even when no one was watching. From a young age, I learned that quality is not accidental. It is built through discipline, patience, and attention to detail.

When I officially joined the business, I did not skip steps. I learned the trade from the ground up, starting with prep, cleanup, and the unglamorous parts of the job that most people overlook. That foundation shaped how I approach every project. If the prep is not right, nothing else matters. That belief still guides how we work today.

Raising the Standard

As I grew into the business, I became focused on one thing: raising the standard. Not just in how the finished product looks, but in how the entire experience feels for the client. Clear communication, organized jobsites, realistic timelines, and honest pricing matter just as much as sharp lines and smooth finishes.

I brought a new energy to the company, blending modern systems and efficiency with the craftsmanship my father built the business on. That balance allowed us to grow while staying true to our values. Every project became an opportunity to prove that a painting company could be professional, reliable, and detail driven at every level.

Taking on more responsibility pushed me to think beyond individual jobs. I began focusing on systems, scheduling, client communication, and long term growth. I wanted to help build something that would last, something that our family could be proud of for generations.

Becoming a business partner with my father has been one of the most meaningful experiences of my life. Working alongside him, learning from his decades of experience, and earning his trust has shaped both my work ethic and my leadership. Together, we combine tradition and progress, experience and drive, craftsmanship and innovation.
